School Days, 1888

3rd Grade Living History Program

school-days1Third grade students step back in time to 1888 as they enter the restored Eden Plain School at the call of the school bell.

Morning lessons of reading in McGuffey Readers, ciphering on chalk slates, and singing songs of the late 1800’s give them a glimpse into how school was in yesteryear.

The classroom teacher prepares children by studying local pioneer families, teaching the flag salute given in 1888 as well as songs and games of that time period.  Children dress in clothing appropriate to the time and bring lunches without processed and packaged foods for a full living history experience.
